Devotion
Since I was in the second grade, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. When I was in elementary school, I became inquisitive with the idea of teaching and loved to “play school” every chance I could. Every Christmas I begged my parents to have an overhead projector to complete my set up classroom I created in a corner of my basement. As the years progressed, in high school I became infatuated with the desire to help others and make a difference in the lives of others. Throughout my college education, my passion and determination to be a teacher has only grown and I have gained knowledge, developed strengths and built on weaknesses in order to prepare myself for the realities of being a teacher in a high school classroom.
I feel confident and skilled in showing immediacy and in my use of verbal and non-verbal communication skills. I stand for the significance and benefits of developing open communication with students and the building of appropriate relationships in order to achieve the highest levels of success. It is essential to take the time to truly know your students in order to be able to relate material to their lives for them to find meaning and importance in their education. I also believe in the magnitude of communication and immediacy which can be exhibited through acts such as giving appropriate and positive feedback and verbal praise, eye contact, nodding, smiling and personalization. When students feel that their teacher believes that they can be successful and pushes them to their full potential, students will be more motivated and active participants in their education. I find significance and enjoyment when interacting and having meaningful conversations with adolescent students. I am passionate and devoted to teaching because I desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
I am passionate about the impact that reading and writing can have on the life of an individual. When a book is read, a new world is discovered and explored. WHen a pen meets paper, a personal voice is expressed out to the world and into the lives of others. It is my hope and responsibility as a future educator to instill in the lives of adolescents the significance and impact that literacy has. As a devoted lover of literature and a future teacher, knowing that the majority of students are repulsed by reading and writing is both disappointing and unacceptable. Writing is not about perfection. It should not be a word that causes feelings of intimidation, pressure or fear. It should be a word that evokes feelings of excitement, inspiration, hope and promise for a bright future. Writing is a process, where time, faith and support are needed in order to ensure the ultimate results.
